Real user optimisation

Your slow Shopify store is bleeding money.

Page speed work that real customers feel, not lab scores tuned for testing tools. $3,000 one-time, typically four weeks.

The real problem

The Lighthouse score lie.

Most agencies promise 90+ scores. Here's why that's a red flag.

Lighthouse score (lab data)
  • Perfect network conditions
  • High-end desktop hardware
  • No browser extensions
  • Cached assets, first-time visitors excluded
  • A single test run in a controlled environment
Real user experience (field data)
  • Variable WiFi, 4G, and slow connections
  • Old iPhones, budget Androids, mixed devices
  • Ad blockers, password managers, extensions
  • First-time visitors with a cold cache
  • Thousands of real-world conditions
Google's own dataMany websites with high Lighthouse scores still fail Core Web Vitals when measured with real user data (CrUX). If an agency promises 90+ scores without mentioning real user metrics, it is optimising for the wrong thing.
How we work

Real users over robots.

We measure what matters: real user behaviour, not synthetic tests.

01 / Measure real users first

Chrome UX Report (CrUX) analysis, real user monitoring, the actual bottlenecks, and tests across real device types.

02 / Optimise for real conditions

Mobile first, variable network speeds, cold cache scenarios, and resilience at peak traffic.

03 / Validate with real metrics

Conversion rate before and after, bounce rate, time to first purchase, and repeat customer load times.

What we don't do
  • Score manipulation
  • Optimisation that breaks under real traffic
  • Band-aid apps that add bloat
  • Generic template optimisations
What we do
  • Asset optimisation: images, fonts, scripts
  • Critical rendering path optimisation
  • Code minification and cleanup
  • App audit and removal of bloat
What we fix

A technical deep dive.

Exactly what we do. No black boxes, no secrets. Every change is documented in a handoff report, so there is no vendor lock-in.

Image and asset optimisation

WebP and AVIF conversion, responsive image sizing for each device width, lazy loading below the fold, and priority loading for critical above-the-fold images. Typical impact: 30 to 50% less page weight.

Code optimisation

Unused CSS and JavaScript removed, critical CSS inlined, scripts deferred or loaded async, and full minification and compression. Typical impact: 40 to 60% faster initial render.

Third-party script management

Tag manager clean-up, Meta Pixel efficiency, deferred analytics, and A/B testing tool tuning. Typical impact: 20 to 30% less blocking time.

Shopify-specific optimisations

Liquid code optimisation to remove redundant queries, a full app audit, faster checkout flows, and priority work on key product pages. Typical impact: 1 to 2 seconds off load time.

Core Web Vitals focus

LCP: faster hero images and above-the-fold content. CLS: reserved space for dynamic content to stop layout jank. INP: less JavaScript blocking and faster event handlers. Target: green CrUX field data, not just Lighthouse.

Infrastructure and delivery

CDN configuration, faster server response through efficient code, caching for repeat visitors, and Shopify CDN asset delivery.

FAQ

Common questions.

Everything you need to know before getting started.

Why don't you promise 90+ Lighthouse scores like other agencies?

Because a perfect lab score is not what your customers experience. Many sites with high Lighthouse scores still fail Core Web Vitals for real users. We optimise for real phones, real networks, and real shopping conditions.

What do you actually promise?

A clear process. We measure your baseline on real devices and Chrome field data, agree the target metrics in writing before kickoff, and report before-and-after numbers for every change. We don't promise a specific score, because the ceiling depends on your theme, apps, and third-party scripts, and we tell you upfront what is realistic.

How long do improvements last?

As long as the code stays clean. Adding heavy apps or unoptimised code later can undo gains, so we hand over maintenance guidelines to help you keep the store fast. You own all changes.

Will this break my site or existing customisations?

No. We test everything on a staging theme before touching production. You review and approve changes before go-live, and every change is documented.

Can't I just use a speed app from the Shopify App Store?

You could, but those apps often add weight while claiming to remove it. Most work by deferring scripts, which can break functionality and doesn't fix root causes. Real optimisation means fixing the code.

Do I need to keep paying monthly to maintain speed?

No. This is a one-time optimisation. You own all changes. Optional monitoring is available, but most clients maintain speed themselves using our documentation.

Will this work with my current theme and apps?

Yes. We optimise your existing setup and only recommend a theme change if the theme is fundamentally broken, which we tell you upfront. We often recommend removing apps that add bloat. The final decision is always yours.

How is this different from Shopify's built-in speed features?

Shopify provides good infrastructure, such as its CDN, but it doesn't optimise your specific code, images, or app setup. Most slow Shopify stores are slow because of theme code, images, apps, and third-party scripts.
